*MISCONCEPTIONS SURROUNDING EID/UDHIYAH (Sacrificial Animal*).

⏹ PART 1

As salaamu alaykum warahmatullah wabarakaatuhu.

This write up aims at enlightening Muslims on some of the false assertions/stories and wrong actions that are prevalent in our society as regards 'Eid/Udhiyyah.

Below is a list of some of the "lies" we've been fed with growing up.

1⃣
*ABRAHAM'S VOW TO GOD*.

*Misconception*
It's a widespread rumour that *the origin of the sacrificial animal that we slaughter today stems from the vow that Prophet Ibraaheem (Abraham) made to Allah, that, "O Allah, if you bestow me with a son in this my old age, I shall sacrifice him for you*".

*Clarification*
It should be worthy of *note that this fallacious story is a claim of other people of the book' (Jews and Christians), and has no basis in our religion of Islam*.

*Rather, Allah bestowed him with a righteous son, Ismaa'eel, due to his humble request (without any vow), thereafter, Allah tested him by commanding him (in his dream) to sacrifice his son, in a bid to test his obedience and submission*.

~ *Evidence that shows it was a command*👇🏼.

1.
*The dreams of the Prophets are revelations*.

2.
*When Ibraaheem informed his son, Ismaa'eel, about Allah's command, he humbly submitted and said to him*:

" يا أبت افعل ما تؤمر..."

*O my father, do what you've been commanded*..."

See *Q37 vs 100-111], for full story*

2⃣
*SACRIFICE OF SONS*.

*Misconception*
In an attempt to malign Islam, some people will *joke that; 'Muslims would have been offering their sons as sacrifice, and hence be left with no males to practice their religion, had the son not been ransomed by an animal*

*Clarification*.
Firstly, we should know for certain that *Allah will never command us to do Al fahsha' (evil deeds, e.g, unjust killing, illegal sex, polytheism etc*)

"إنّ الله لا يأمر بالفحشاء.."

*Q16 vs 90, Q7 vs 28*]

*Secondly*, it was merely *a test of submission and obedience*. Thereafter, Allah ransomed him with a ram and made it an obligtion on the ummah of Muhammad as a commemoration.
Allah says:

*Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial*

*And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. a ram*)

*And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times*.

, *Q37 vs 106-108*

3⃣ *TAKBEERAAT REPETITION*

*Misconception*
It is widely rumoured that the Prophet (pbuh) repeated the takbeerat (Allahu Akbar) on salaatu-l-'eid *was due to his grieving from the death of his child, hence he was carried away by his grief and mistakenly repeated the takbeeraat*.

▶ *Clarification*
*This rumour is also fallacious as the repetition of the takbeer (7 more times after Takbeeratul ihraam in the first rakah, and 5 more times after the takbeer of rising up for the second rakah), was legislated that way by Allah*.

May Allah continue to grant sound understanding of Deen.
